• Concentrations of ceftiofur and related metabolites in interstitial fluid* serve as a better indicator of target-site drug concentrations than do plasma concentrations. • Plasma and infected chamber interstitial fluid concentrations of ceftiofur and related metabolites were above the efficacy threshold** 9 days after subcutaneous administration of EXCEDE (ceftiofur crystalline free acid) Sterile Suspension. • EXCEDE achieved increased concentrations of ceftiofur and related metabolites at infected vs. non-infected sites. • Interstitial fluid from infected tissue chambers had higher concentrations of protein than non-infected tissue cages. • Clinical evaluations from other studies support a duration of activity following administration of EXCEDE for 7 to 9 days. This study supports those clinical findings, demonstrating concentrations of ceftiofur and related metabolites in the lungs and in interstitial fluids that are above the concentrations needed to inhibit target pathogens.
